The Mechanical Inspector will support LAWA’s Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA’s Capital Improvement Program. 

Essential Job Duties  

  • Inspects the construction of a wide variety of airport improvements and utilities projects to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, contracts, permits, environmental documents, agreements for work, and may provide construction inspection support. 
  • Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications, review and interpret construction documents including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.  
  • Demonstrates strong proficiency in preparing comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in tracking progress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner. Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, 70E, 72), mechanical and plumbing codes, and LAWA-specific standards.  
  • Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values.  
  • Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed.  

Professional Experience Level/Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Mechanical inspection staff shall have 3 years or more experience performing mechanical inspections for Building Construction.  
  • Mechanical inspection staff possess a thorough knowledge of the materials and methods used in the installation of plumbing, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration installations.  
  • Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Mechanical, Proof of Cal-OSHA 30 hr. training within the last 4 years, Fall protection and harness training, Confined Space Entry Training  
  • Knowledge of Project Management Information Software used for inspection/document control (i.e., Microsoft Office, Outlook, Xcel, Word, PM Web, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam, etc.). 
  • Computer proficiency to review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents efficiently, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspection documents, with minimal supervision. 

Required Education/Training:  High school diploma (or equivalent)  

Pay Ranage: $120k-$125k
