Utility -Telecom/Transmission/Distribution Planner/Designer

We’re looking for a part-time, hourly OpenRoads Designer to support telecom and utility relocation/design tasks (fiber/ductbanks, conduit, handholes, telecom attachments). This position in remote, with occasional onsite meetings in Los Angeles.   

Responsibilities

• Develop 60%/90%/100% relocation design for telecom conflicts and obtain utility owner approval
• Responsible for designing new overhead and underground telecommunications
• Prepare and provide exhibits as requested for Report of Investigation (ROI) 
• Coordinate with main consultant and Utility Owner to complete design items listed above
• Coordinate with utility companies, and ensuring compliance with local regulations
• Engineering skills designing new infrastructure; strong engineering skills are needed to develop effective designs and plans
• Maintain effective communication with a range of stakeholders, including clients, contractors, utility companies, and local authorities
• Project management skills: ability to plan, organize, and manage resources, timelines, and budgets
• Able to solve complex problems/ tasks, resolving technical issues, addressing regulatory requirements, and managing unexpected changes
• Work on a flexible, hourly basis (10–25 hours/week)

Required Qualifications/Experience 

• Bachelors in Civil Engineering (PE preferred)
• 2+ yrs of expertise performing design for telecom/utility relocation
• Min 2–3 years using Bentley OpenRoads (utilities/subsurface utilities), CAD and DGN files
• 2+ yrs strong expertise with GO95 and GO128
• Experience developing 30%/60%/90%/100% relocation design
• Strong understanding of industry standards, regulations
• Experience designing infrastructure layouts, creating schematics, and managing documentation
