Under the general direction of the Chief of the Traffic Accident Surveillance and Analysis (TASAS) Branch, a Senior Transportation Engineer, the Research Data Specialist I independently performs advanced and complex geospatial and non-spatial data preparation, research, and analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) methodologies. The incumbent develops and automates techniques to streamline geospatial data manipulation, spatial analysis, and visualization of safety data to support Model Inventory of Roadway Element (MIRE) reporting and safety analysis. The incumbent coordinates with local/regional agency to collect, process, validate and maintain MIRE dataset and provides GIS training and support to staff within the Branch. The incumbent, as a GIS lead, may be assigned to special projects or activities within the Branch.
