KFH Group is seeking a Transportation Analyst with an interest in public transportation to join our Rockville team in Maryland. This is a remote position for a candidate based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, including Maryland and Northern Virginia. The ideal candidate for this position will be a self-starter with excellent communication and quantitative skills.

As a small consulting firm specializing in public transportation, KFH Group offers employees the opportunity to contribute to many aspects of a project. Assignments may include data analysis, GIS mapping, technical writing, data visualization, public engagement, surveys, field visits, presentations, and research. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with the consulting work environment, learning new tools quickly, and translating information into clear and useful findings.

Our firm has over 30 years of experience conducting transportation development plans, comprehensive operational analyses, coordination plans, transit feasibility studies, transit facility inventories, and ADA paratransit evaluations. You'll be diving into diverse projects all while gaining invaluable experience and building your expertise. The position’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

• Analyzing and mapping transit ridership, operating, demographic, land-use, survey, and other data using Microsoft Excel, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and other analytical tools.
• Developing clear maps, charts, tables, graphics, dashboards, and other visualizations to communicate analytical findings.
• Working with the public and engaging communities through a variety of approaches, including surveys onboard buses, pop-up events, focus groups, stakeholder interviews, etc.
• Conducting fieldwork such as bus ride checks, bus stop inventories, passenger surveys, observations, and data collection.
• Writing and producing professional transportation documents, tools, and presentations for clients and public engagement.
• Supporting project managers in developing meeting materials, including meeting minutes, public input summaries, drafting recommendations, and final planning documents.
• Conducting research and demonstrating critical thinking in solving transportation challenges.
• Working on assigned tasks within established scopes, schedules, and budgets and communicating proactively when challenges arise.
• Using AI-enabled and other emerging tools responsibly to support research, analysis, quality control, task automation, and workflow efficiency, while reviewing outputs for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate use.

Experience with one or more of the following would be valuable:

• Professional proficiency in spoken and written Spanish.
• Python, SQL, R, ArcGIS Notebooks, or another programming or data-analysis language.
• Cartography and the ability to produce publication-quality maps and data visualizations.
• ArcGIS Online applications such as Dashboards, StoryMaps, Survey123, or Field Maps.
• Power BI, Tableau, or another data-visualization platform.
• Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, or other report-production and graphic-design software.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems, transportation planning, urban planning, or a related field.
• Entry-level to approximately two years of applicable work experience.
• Demonstrated experience with technical and non-technical writing
• Demonstrated experience communicating information effectively through maps, charts, graphics, and presentations.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel and ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS, or comparable analytical and mapping software.
• Willingness to travel periodically.

This is a remote position; however, the work arrangement may change based on the needs of the company and its clients. The successful candidate will maintain an appropriate home workspace and work effectively with geographically distributed project teams. The position is expected to involve approximately 10%–20% travel and fieldwork, depending on project needs, including occasional overnight travel and evening or weekend public-engagement activities.
