The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) seeks a visionary executive leader to join the organization as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Serving under the general direction of a seven-member Board of Directors, the CEO is responsible for managing the overall JTA organization. Tasks include including planning for public transportation needs; directing the mass transit division; overseeing the acquisition, maintenance, and repair of all operating vehicles and property owned by the JTA; supervising road and street construction; advising and consulting with the Board to assure that all issues and decisions requiring Board action are fully explained and discussed; and interacts as the Authority's Chief Executive Officer with federal, state, and local government entities.

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) is the State independent agency responsible for public transportation and certain transportation infrastructure functions serving the greater Jacksonville area in Northeast Florida, including the counties of Duval, Clay, Nassau, and St. Johns. The system serves millions of trips annually and is a critical piece of Northeast Florida's mobility and economic-development infrastructure.

The JTA’s next CEO will demonstrate a professional and executive presence which stands on behalf of the organization as the leader and champion of the Authority as they serve as a JTA staff leader to deliver customer-oriented, safe, reliable, affordable, and on-time service to the community. The CEO maintains a range of responsibilities including collaborating with the Board to define and implement policy decisions; overseeing financial plans; interacting with federal, state, and local representatives and the media; and providing vision towards increasing transit-oriented development in and around Jacksonville. 

A typical way of demonstrating qualifications is to: 

  • Hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration (preferred), management, transportation, or a related field, or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Have accrued five (5) years of experience in progressively-responsible executive-level administration and management in an organization that would include: 
    • Demonstrated performance in an executive or senior leadership role in a transit or transportation agency or in a comparable public or private sector enterprise.
    • Demonstrated experience in a major transportation program or industry of similar complexity, including experience managing a bus, fixed guideway, or a multimodal system.
    • Demonstrated experience managing a highway or road department.
    • Demonstrated experience overseeing road and bridge construction, including right-of-way, significant engineering, or public works operation.

In addition, candidates must have a proven track record of successfully managing a large, complex, and diverse organization with significant capital and operating budgets; be fiscally responsible and politically savvy; and maintain an unquestioned level of integrity, credibility, and confidence.
